Digital Public Infrastructure:

Beckn Protocol

WeAccel, Our Partners and Digital Public Infrastructure

WeAccel’s work with GCTC and NIST lead to our search for interoperable and open-source software to accelerate innovation and lower costs, especially for communities.

Today we are working with global partners, including the founders of Beckn Protocol, to identify community priorities that Beckn’s DPI solutions can work to solve. Beckn’s open-source, interoperable technology protocol has the potential to create open and decentralized digital systems “that safely and efficiently deliver economic opportunities and social services to all residents”. It also opens up significant entrepreneurial opportunities for local and regional economies.

This is digital public infrastructure.

Beckn Protocol & FIDE:

Beckn Protocol is an open-source framework designed to enable seamless digital transactions and interoperability across diverse platforms. Along with its FIDE software toolkit, Beckn Protocol provides a decentralized approach to building digital ecosystems, ensuring that technology works collaboratively for the benefit of communities and businesses. At its core, the Beckn Protocol emphasizes openness, inclusivity, and scalability, making it an ideal foundation for community-centric technology solutions.

In essence, Beckn Protocol facilitates buyer-seller transactions (fulfillment), making discovery easier. Any organization with one or more products or services that desires to reach new audiences can benefit.

Key Features of Beckn Protocol

  • Decentralization:

    • Unlike traditional centralized systems, Beckn Protocol allows for the creation of decentralized networks where participants retain control over their data and operations. This accelerates transparency and trust among stakeholders.

  • Interoperability:

    • The protocol enables different digital platforms to communicate and operate seamlessly with each other. For instance, a transportation app built using the Beckn Protocol can integrate with a food delivery service, creating a cohesive user experience.

  • Open Standards:

    • Being open-source, Beckn Protocol encourages innovation and collaboration. Developers and organizations can build solutions on top of the protocol without the restrictions of proprietary systems.

  • Inclusivity:

    • The protocol is designed to work across diverse environments, ensuring that even small businesses, local organizations, and underserved communities can participate in digital ecosystems.

    • FIDE Toolkit: developer toolkit to enable Beckn Protocol applications.

Beckn Protocol Applications for Community Resilience: Examples

  • Real-Time Resource Tracking:

    • Before, during, and after emergencies/disasters, a Beckn-Protocol-based solution could enable communities to track and allocate resources such as food, clean water, medical supplies, housing, equipment, etc.

  • Integrated Communication Systems:

    • A Beckn-protocol-based solution could integrate communication platforms from a variety of agencies and organizations:

      • to facilitate effective inter-agency communication and collaboration; and

      • to ensure residents receive timely and accurate information before, during, and after emergency/disasters

  • Local Commerce Enablement:

    • A Beckn-protocol-based solution could empower local, small businesses to become more visible to consumers, strengthening local economies and enhancing economic resilience.

  • Scalability for Future Needs:

    •  A Beckn-protocol-based solution will evolve to address new challenges as they emerge, making it a powerful and flexible framework for resilience initiatives.

By leveraging Beckn Protocol, its FIDE Toolkit, and our skilled partner organizations, WeAccel enables solutions that are not only innovative but also inclusive and adaptable, meeting the diverse needs of the communities we serve.

What is digital public infrastructure?

When COVID- 19 accelerated digital transformation globally, it highlighted the difference between strong and weak digital infrastructure. Countries have a narrow window to ensure they have digital networks that safely and efficiently deliver economic opportunities and social services to all residents. This is digital public infrastructure.
