HISTORY

The 2018 concept behind Smart City Diaries was a bold one: meet, interview, engage with and film at least innovative communities across the globe. Brandon Katcher of Lost Summit Films made a pitch to Deborah Acosta, who was featured in his award-winning documentary, Truth is Beauty: “No one really knows what a smart city is - let’s show them!”

Their intention was for these initial explorations to lead to development of a “smart city” docu-series. This 10-part series would explore diverse peoples at the intersection of culture, geography and technology. Yes, we even created a pilot episode, finished in February 2020!

You know what happened next.

When COVID-19 locked us down, podcasting gave our team the tools to publicly explore the question: “What is a Smart City?” “Smart City Diaries: The Podcast” was launched in 2021. Featuring Millennial and Boomer, Daughter and Mother co-hosts, Anna Acosta and Deborah Acosta, their generational perspectives lend color to their exploration of how modern tech systems work: broadband, data, energy, transportation and more.

Today, the Smart City Diaries team has expanded their services to share knowledge through visual media and to help your business or community reach a wider audience. More than ever, we need to transfer technology and systems knowledge — at lightning speed — to new generations.
